“Where are we now” takes its title from this song by David Bowie and provides a starting point for thinking about the concept of division. Luanda, the city in which the artist was born, has been inundated by railings since the 1990s. They appeared everywhere, mainly on windows, balconies and residential buildings, slowly invading the city, to the point of becoming integral to its aesthetic. The railings take all shapes and patterns, built with decorative elements that subtly attempt to make them transparent and more integrated.
The elements used by the artist to build this artwork are mass-produced and originally designed to decorate gates and railings, inspired by forms in nature.
